Eastern European Advice Project
Enfield Citizens' Advice Bureau has established an exciting outreach programme for the Polish and other Eastern European communities in Greater London, as the result of a grant from Citizens Advice Bureau Head Office in 2007. The grant built on funding that Enfield CAB received from Citizens Advice Bureau for a research project on the advice and information needs of Eastern European communities in North London.
This established beyond doubt the size and urgency of the need to deal effectively with the multiple disadvantages being suffered by this growing community.
Enfield CAB , with further support from Citizens Advice Bureau, has now (February 2008) appointed two Polish speaking field officers, Bozena Krahn and Isabella Sowe .
Their job will be to develop strong links with focal points in the community - whether they be clubs, parish churches, delicatessens, trade-unions or newspapers - so that Enfield Citizens' Advice Bureau can eventually establish a pan-London advice service covering its traditional range of topics in the language that clients feel at home with.
Enfield CAB is grateful for the early support of the Polish Consul General, His Excellency Robert Rusiecki, and the President of the Federation of Poles in Great Britain, Dr Jan Mokrzycki, in assisting with the development of this project.
