CAB volunteering
The Citizens advice service helps people resolve their money, legal and other problems by providing free advice and by influencing policymakers. Every Citizens Advice Bureau is a registered charity reliant on trained volunteers and funds to continue providing this vital service to local communities.
CAB volunteering - the facts:
- There are over 20,000 volunteers in the Citizens Advice service and we could not provide our service without them.
- The majority of our advisers are trained volunteers. Training is free and support is provided every step of the way.
- Every Citizens Advice Bureau has a trustee board of volunteer trustees responsible for the management of the bureau
- CAB volunteers also give their time as administrators, receptionists, providing IT support, marketing, interpreting, PR or fundraising skills.
- Nearly one-third of the volunteers who leave the service go on to full time education or employment.
- We need around 5,000 new volunteers every to continue to meet the needs to local communities.
- The CAB certificate in generalist advice work is equivalent to NVQ level 3.
- CAB volunteers get free training, ongoing support and expenses paid.
- Enfield CAB service is part of the national millennium Volunteer scheme, training volunteers between 16-24 years old.
- Law students who train as CAB advisers can get up to six months off their solicitor training contracts.
